GLASGOW entrepreneur, Julie Broadfoot, is nervously waiting to hear if she’s the lucky recipient of not just one but two major awards, both of which will be announced in the same week.

After just 16 months in business, the writer and photographer is a finalist in both the Scottish New Music Industry Awards and the Association of Scottish Businesswomen Awards which take place next week.

This Sunday, Julie will discover if she’s claimed the coveted title of Event Photographer of the Year at the Scottish New Music Industry Awards in Glasgow but will have to wait until Friday to find out if she’s won Young Business of the Year at the Association of Scottish Businesswomen Awards in Aviemore.

The former BBC producer now runs Juliebee Writing & Photography.

Julie says: “Starting my own business was a huge leap of faith but it’s been incredible.

“After so many years working for large organisations, entering ‘the outside world’ was quite terrifying and very challenging but I’ve loved every minute of it.

“I’m delighted that my efforts have been recognised by clients, musicians, fans and successful entrepreneurs, and to win an award (or both!) would be just fantastic for my business. My fingers are tightly crossed!”

Stuart Glen, formerly of animal charity, OneKind, enthusiastically recommended Julie for her ASB shortlisting.

He says: “Julie is professional, creative, tenacious and a real pleasure to work with.

“She is warm and engaging, and excels at putting the subject (and the client) at ease. In some ways, you’d expect nothing less when you commission a photographer.

“But for me, Julie’s innovative use of (potentially perceived) extra-curricular activity to develop the brand has impressed me every bit as much.”

Julie’s business has gone from strength to strength in the 16 months since she founded her company, picking up a nomination from industry magazine, The Drum, as one of the UK’s Top 100 Freelancers earlier this year.

She’s covered three of the biggest events in Scotland’s entertainment calendar this year: Celtic Connections, T in the Park and Edinburgh Fringe; her clients include DF Concerts, STV, Carrie Mac, Maggie’s Centres, Quarriers and OneKind.
