GETyourself down to 1901 Bar & Grill on Glasgow’s southside this weekend for a chance to win a prize weekend for two in Dublin.

The leading quality gastro pub hosts its first ever St Patrick’s Weekend Festival for all the family from Friday 16th to Sunday 18th of March – and the star prize in the pub’s charity fundraising raffle is a weekend for two, including travel and accommodation, in Dublin.

Better still, all money raised from the raffle will be donated to the STV Appeal 2012 – Supporting Scotland’s Children campaign.

The 2012 STV Appeal once again has the support of the Scottish Government, which is committed to match-funding the total amount raised in 2012.

Patrick Stapleton, manager at 1901, said: “We’re delighted to help play an active part in helping the STV Appeal 2012 combat Scotland’s child poverty; and we’re sure we’ll raise a large amount on the day for the appeal at what is sure to be a great family occasion.”

Rob Woodward, STV CEO and trustee of the STV Appeal, said: “We are delighted that 1901 has lent its full support to the STV Appeal 2012 with this tremendous St Patrick’s Weekend Festival which, as well as being a fun day out for all the family, will raise much needed funds for our campaign.

“One in four children in Scotland live in poverty. This is Scotland’s secret shame and the reason why STV and The Hunter Foundation have joined forces to make a difference. Every penny raised in Scotland stays in Scotland.”

The brainchild of Stapleton, a native of Dublin, 1901’s St Patrick’s Weekend Festival will incorporate live performances from Scottish and Irish bands, traditional ceilidh and tap dancers as well as special screenings of the RBS 6 Nations Rugby Championship.

And there will be fun galore for all the family, including face painting and special screenings of Irish children’s TV programmes.

Mr Stapleton said: “Glasgow’s St Patrick’s celebrations get bigger and bigger every year – and our first ever St Patrick’s Weekend Festival will add to the festivities with a host of lively musical, cultural and sporting entertainment that celebrates the very best of Celtic culture for all the family to enjoy.

“The festivities get under way on Friday 16th March with Scottish ceilidh band Agus Haggis performing from 8pm till late with the bar menu specialising in traditional Irish fare – and the bar serving up pints of green lager – with bar staff sporting leprechaun costumes. Good craic is guaranteed!”

On Saturday 17th March, a packed programme will see 1901 screen the Scotland, Wales and Ireland 6 Nations Rugby games.

The live music performance, featuring a traditional Irish balladeer, gets underway at 2pm till 4pm, followed by the Ireland v England rugby match at 5pm. Special ‘Potato Fare’ – or ‘Irish Tapas’ – will be served during the match, whilst traditional Irish stew will feature on the bar menu.

Sponsor of the day is Tobermory Whisky and free sampling with prizes will be available from 4pm till 5pm just before the match.

The no-doubt contentious post-match analysis will be followed by a lively performance from a traditional Irish band with dancers from 7pm till 9pm, leading onto a poetry reading, chat and more dancing. The evening concludes with a Scottish ballad session from 10pm till 11pm.

The weekend rounds off with a special Mother’s Day lunch on Sunday 18th March followed by more live traditional Irish music from 3pm till 6pm.

Recently awarded a prestigious Cask Marque, an accolade recognising the quality and care of cask or ‘real’ ales, 1901 Bar & Grill is located at 1534 Pollokshaws Road in Glasgow’s southside.
