SCOTSMAN, Mark Beaumont, the fastest man to cycle around the globe, is putting his world-record breaking muscles behind the Perth & Kinross Council’s record-breaking attempt to hold the world’s largest kilt run this June.

Scotsman Mark Beaumont, the fastest man to cycle around the globe, is putting his world record breaking muscles behind the Perth & Kinross Council’s record breaking attempt to hold the World’s Largest Kilt Run this June.
In a call to action issued on social networking site Twitter last week, Mark asked his 12,500 followers if they fancied “breaking a World Record whilst running in your kilt?! Get involved the @theKiltRun in Perth on June 2nd. We need 2000 kilted runners!”
He later commented “I am delighted to support the Perth Kilt Run.  The Canadians have set a fantastic record and I am convinced that we can get Scots (and other kilt-wearers!) from all over the world to raise the Guinness World Record even higher in June.”
Although Mark has not yet been able to commit to participating in the event this June, with a small matter of his own wedding and a honeymoon to arrange first, he is actively encouraging others to join in with the attempt.
“If you’ve ever wanted to be part of setting a World Record, whether you are 15 or 85 then this is your chance. And why not make your effort really count? I strongly encourage all runners to also raise money for PKAVS and ABF The Soldiers’ Charity whose vital, but seldom see, work makes a huge difference to people’s lives.  There are loads of other things to do and see in Perth on the day, so it should be great day out for families.’
No stranger to breaking world records, the adventurer smashed the Guinness World Record for the fastest round the world cycle trip in only 194 days, knocking a whopping 82 days off the previous record holder’s time.
The Perth Kilt Run is being held as part of the Perth & Kinross Council’s celebrations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee on Saturday 2nd June. 2000 kilted runners are expected to take to the streets of the newly crowned City of Perth to steal the record back from their twin town of Perth, Ontario in Canada.
