Media Release: Omega Completion Technology to battle mud, fire, ice-water and 10,000 volts of electricity for charity

RUNNING through flaming bales of hay and being shocked with up to 10,000 volts of electricity is a far cry from the day job of four staff members from Omega Completion Technology, who are taking part in the Tough Mudder challenge this weekend (Saturday 14th July).

Business development manager Malcolm Adam, offshore engineer Ben Page, machine shop manager Clint Mackenzie and machinist Jeff Shand have signed up to complete the Tough Mudder event – described as a hardcore 12-mile obstacle course that was designed by Special Forces, to raise money for the Archie Foundation – the charity arm of Aberdeen Royal Children’s Hospital.

Designed to test the participants’ strength, stamina, determination, and teamwork skills, the Omega workmates will have to work their way past 28 obstacles – swinging through greased monkey bars, running through muddy fields and, in the final hurdle, running through a wall of 10,000 volt electric charged cables.

Malcolm says: “One of our offshore engineers, Ben, suggested Tough Mudder to us and described it as an ‘assault course’. We thought it sounded good so we all signed up. It wasn’t until later, when I did some research, that I found out what it really entailed – I was horrified!”

Tough Mudder takes place at a number of venues across the UK, as well as across the globe, and this weekend’s event is being staged at Drumlanrig Castle in Dumfriesshire.

Organisers encourage participants to enter in teams as it celebrates people working together and enables competitors to lean on each other when morale drops.

Malcolm continues: “We are getting used to the idea of it now and are looking forward to it.

“I’d much rather experience it and say ‘I’m never doing that again’ than not do it and regret it. Plus we are doing it for a really good cause. The Archie Foundation does really great work and we hope to raise £3,000.

“We have had a lot of fun training from going out for runs at lunch time to carrying around old railway sleepers in the car park. We have even installed a pull up bar in the staff room so we can get some extra practice in.

“We’re really getting into it, and are just hoping to do our best- we don’t have a target time, we just want to get round it together and have a great time.”

Omega has over 20 years of history in developing products for well intervention and completion, and currently holds 23 patents.

All of the firm’s products are designed and produced in-house, including electronics design and manufacture.
