QUERYCLICK’S business development manager is proving it really is a family affair as she gets ready to embark on a trip to Uganda with her mum to build the first of 40 homes for orphaned children.

As part of a fundraising team, Debbie, who is business development manager for the Edinburgh-based, search engine marketing firm, QueryClick, is holding a charity fun-day on Saturday 28th July in an effort to raise her £1,250 personal target.

The trip is organised by children’s charity, Touch of Hope Children’s Home, which was set up to meet the needs of unfortunate children in Uganda where an estimated 2.3million have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS alone.

Debbie said: “I can’t wait to get over to Uganda and help build homes for some of the children who are without the basic standards of living we appreciate in the UK and are instead living vulnerably on the streets in Kampala or in city slums.

“It’s going to be a challenge but I am looking forward to it especially having my mum doing it with me. I hope this is the beginning of giving children a home and a family unit for potentially over 300 orphans in the local area.

“I’m looking to do plenty of fundraising and hope the fun day which I’m doing with two others who are going on the trip will be a big success.

“It’s at Elim Church in Deans Livingston and is the perfect size for what we’ve got in store with a bouncy castle, beat the goalie and loads of other games for kids to get involved in.”

Touch of Hope Children’s Home will see a team of ten working with local experienced construction workers to build the housing.

Over the course of the ten days, they will also spend time visiting other orphanages giving much-needed love and attention to these children and will volunteer at a local babies home in Kampala.

Debbie added: “It’s probably going to be an emotional rollercoaster but seeing how they live and trying to inject some positivity into their lives will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

The company, which launched in 2008 with just three members of staff, now employees 16 people, working on a diverse range of clients including multi-national FTSE 100 company, Aggreko.
