Media Release: Hawkhill House residents enjoy annual garden party

HAWKHILL GARDEN PARTY001

RESIDENTS of Hawkhill House have been entertained by some of the world’s top young musicians during the nursing home’s annual garden party.

The Milltimber home has been the setting for a series of private performances by young artistes taking part in the Aberdeen International Youth Festival recently and these culminated in the annual garden party on Thursday, August 9th.

The event was enjoyed by residents, families, staff, Friends of Hawkhill representatives and invited guests including Aberdeen Lord Provost, George Adam.

Hawkhill House owner and managing director Rona Tayler is a long-term supporter of the Festival and, in recognition of her commitment, groups of young visiting musicians annually entertain at the Milltimber home during their time in the North east.

Among those who have delighted the elderly residents during this year’s Festival were the Tamana Pioneers Steel Orchestra from Trinidad and Tobago, Blackburn with Darwen Music Service Big Band and Russian pianist Anya Ivanova.

Home grown talent was represented courtesy of Flercussion, a Scottish percussion and flute duo appearing thanks to the Festival’s links with Live Music Now, an organisation which supports and trains young musicians to perform and work in non-concert venues in the community.

Rona Tayler said: “The Aberdeen International Youth Festival is a wonderful showcase for youngsters and we are very fortunate that such a wide range of musicians travel to this part of the world to share their talents with us.

“Hawkhill House has a very strong and ongoing commitment to the local arts scene and music has always played an important part in the wide range of therapies and activities we offer to our residents, not least our summer garden party which is the highlight of our annual calendar of events.

“As well as being a much anticipated event among our residents, the garden party is our chance to spend time with the many friends of Hawkhill who do so much to support us throughout the year.”

Aberdeen International Youth Festival artistic director and CEO, Stewart Aiken, added: “AIYF has benefited over many years from the generous support of Rona Taylor and all the staff and residents at Hawkhill House both financial and also through the wonderful welcome they give to the many different participants that have gone to the home to perform.

“This time and commitment to the performers is key to the success of the Festival and it gives a fantastic memory and impression of their time here in the North east of Scotland.”
