Media Release: Bank of Scotland staff to take over Aberdeen’s Save the Children shop, for a day

ON Friday (23rd November), Bank of Scotland staff will ‘take over’ Aberdeen’s Save the Children shop for the day in a bid to raise as much money as possible for the charity.

On the day, ten staff from the local Commercial Banking team will sort and sell stock with the aim to increase the income the shop made on the same date last year.

In addition, for the two weeks leading up to the event, colleagues have been collecting interesting and high value stock and taking it to their nearest Save the Children store.

Among the items on sale on the day will be merchandise from the Butterworth Gallery and staff hope to further boost the coffers with a charity cycle ‘ride’ on a cycling machine in the window of the shop.

A Christmas fayre for bank staff has already got efforts off to a great start earlier this week, raising £679 to get the ball rolling.

Bank of Scotland is part of the Lloyds Banking Group and, in total, over 500 Group colleagues will take over 100 of the Save the Children charity shops across the UK with the aim of raising over £30,000 to support UK communities as part of the Group’s commitment to helping Britain prosper.

Save the Children is Lloyds Banking Group’s chosen Charity of the Year until the end of December 2012.

The partnership has funded Save the Children’s Families and Schools Together (FAST) programmes in some of the UK’s most disadvantaged communities.

Commenting on the event, local commercial banking area director, Graham Blair, said: “We are delighted to get behind this national fundraising effort and we hope that our activities in Aberdeen will be a fun way of raising a serious amount of money.

“We hope that as many people as possible will drop past and show their support on the day.”

Graham Lindsay, Lloyds Banking Group director of Responsible Business, said: “Becoming the best bank for customers means being the best bank for our communities. The group has 30 million customers and has a clear role to play in society helping communities thrive.

“Our work with Save the Children highlights the Group’s ongoing commitment to the communities we serve and doing more to help Britain prosper.

“We are proud to be able to help Save the Children continue their great work and thank our colleagues who are fundraising with one common purpose in mind – to help give a child a better chance in life.”

Douglas Rouse, Corporate Partnerships director at Save the Children, said: “It’s fantastic to see Lloyds Banking Group colleagues from across the UK giving up their time to volunteer in our charity shops.

“We look forward to benefiting from their experience and skills and the money they raise will enable us to help even more children.”
