S1 to S3 pupils at Kelvinside Academy, a leading Scottish independent school situated in the West End of Glasgow, have pitched their product ideas to a panel of business ‘dragons’ as part of the school’s Enterprise Week.

Established to teach pupils more about industry and its component parts, as well as understanding enterprise and its place within business, Enterprise Week comprised a series of practical business challenges for pupils to address.

The week’s main events were the S2 Industry Day, chaired by former pupil Alastair Tear of GMT Shipping in Glasgow, and the S3 Enterprise Challenge. S2 pupils were tasked with creating a marketing campaign for a burger company while S3s designed a product from scratch and pitched their concept to ‘the dragons’.

Kelvinside Academy rector, Robert Karling, said: “Our Enterprise Week is itself an enterprising way to teach students to think creatively. We want them to address challenges and opportunities that arise within business and commerce. If we can stimulate their interest, they may opt to pursue a career in business and commerce.”

Enterprise Week is one aspect of Kelvinside Academy’s ongoing programme of engagement with the local business, commercial and professional communities.

Earlier this year, the school launched its first business breakfast to provide networking and professional development opportunities for business people whilst benefiting those pupils participating in the enterprise strand of its curriculum.
