A NORTH-east ice hockey team ditched their daily shave routines as part of a global campaign to help raise funds for men’s health.

The Aberdeen Lynx Ice Hockey team have been showcasing their best efforts of creative facial hair this month to support Movember, a campaign aimed at raising awareness of men’s health, specifically prostate and testicular cancer.

So far the competitive team of 15 Mo Bro’s have successfully managed to raise £1,478 with donations still flooding in.

The campaign, which was launched in 2003 gains around 900,000 participants each year from all over the world and has raised in the region of £184 million for the cause so far.

Team captain for the Lynx, Jordan Leyden, said: “It has been great for the team to get involved with Movember. It’s been a fun way to raise money for such an important cause and the team’s competitive streak has definitely come through to see who can grow the best and most creative facial hair. It has been a great team effort and we are really proud of how much we have raised so far.”

The Aberdeen Lynx are the Granite City’s only premier ice hockey team competing in the Scottish National League.

The team ranges from 17 to 35 years-old and, for many, this extra curricular hobby is enjoyed on top of studying and full-time jobs.

You can still show your support for the Aberdeen Lynx Ice hockey’s Movember efforts, simply go to: http://uk.movember.com/team/502141. The site is still open to make donations.

The Lynx have 11 home and away games left in the season, which runs until May with their next home game on the 5 January 2013.
