WHEN it comes to finding employment many people can find themselves stuck in the vicious cycle of ‘no experience, no job’.
For those who have a learning disability, mental health problem or physical disability, it can prove extremely difficult to overcome the issue.
Aberdeen firm Elite Promotions, who are behind this year’s Scottish Recruitment Fair being held at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre on Friday, 26 April and Saturday, 27 April, is supporting Inspire as its chosen charity, highlighting the importance of helping unemployed individuals with support needs get into the world of work.
Inspire operates the Café Academy scheme, offering work-focused training within the customer service and hospitality industries for unemployed individuals who have a support need.
The 11-week course is delivered through a series of workshops, accredited training sessions, food focused outings, and placements in Café Coast with other local employers.
Both Inspire and Banff and Buchan College are responsible for the training, and it is the only course of its kind in Aberdeen that combines theory, practical experience and real life work experience.
Employment and volunteer co-ordinator at Inspire, Kelly Ho, said: “Inspire is delighted to be the chosen charity for the Scottish Recruitment Fair.
“Our unique training for employment scheme, Cafe Academy, works closely with both small and large hospitality organisations throughout Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire to give the people we support the chance to find sustainable employment in many roles within this industry.
“Employment opportunities break down barriers and increases social interaction, as well as providing a higher quality of life for the people we support.”
The Scottish Recruitment Fair will feature exhibitors from a range of sectors including oil and gas, retail, subsea engineering, recruitment agencies, as well as the Armed Forces and local authorities.
The event will allow companies from across Scotland to showcase employment opportunities to job seekers, graduates and those looking for a career change, while giving exhibitors the chance to attract potential candidates.
Kathleen Anderson, of Elite Promotions, added: “Inspire’s employment scheme is vital for helping people with support needs get the training they need to help them get into the world of work, and we felt the Scottish Recruitment Fair would be the ideal place to promote the hard work of the charity.”
