The Yamato Company was founded in Japan’s Nara Prefecture in 1993, by Artistic Director Masa Ogawa.

Yamato play Wadaiko drums that range from the size of a plate to over a metre in diameter, including the Odaiko drum, hewn from one huge tree over 400 years-old.

The sheer physical strength and movement of the drummers is as impressive as the music, in this visually spectacular and highly entertaining show.

Yamato is a very significant word for the Japanese. It is a reminder of peaceful times and an important artistic period of their history. Yamato is also the former name of Nara, where the company are based.

Yamato Drummers of Japan’s captivating music has both delicate beauty and heart thumping bass power and the drummers’ remarkable strength and skill defies belief, so their show on Thu 21 Feb at 19.30 is one not to miss!
