AN award-winning North-east chip shop has helped raise £13,000 for the Stonehaven Flood Relief Fund.

Calum Richardson, owner of The Bay Fish and Chips in Stonehaven, which was last month crowned the UK’s No1 Fish and Chip shop, organised the special fundraising event, held at Drumtochty Castle, Auchenblae on Saturday night (2 March).

He was joined by celebrity chef, Nick Nairn, and owner of Ondine in Edinburgh, Roy Brett, who helped cook a fantastic three-course feast for 100 guests at the exclusive event.

Mr Richardson gained incredible support from celebrity pals and local businesses, who all provided their services for free on the night, and donated items for the raffle and auction.

Drumtochty Castle donated the venue and staff for the evening, Chris Harvey, from STV news, compered the event; Sandy Kenneway from Dunnottar Wine and Spirits donated the wine; and Burnside Brewery even brewed a new beer especially for the occasion.

Mr Richardson said: “The Bay was very lucky to only be mildly affected by the floods, and I wanted to give something back to the local community as we rely heavily on the local economy and the sea plays a huge part in our business.

“The event was a huge success and I have to thank the local businesses for their donations, as without their support the event would not have been possible.”

All money raised from the special fundraiser will go towards the funds for the town of Stonehaven, which was set up following severe flooding in the town just days before Christmas last year.

  • The special Burnside Brewery beer is still available to buy at Dunnottar Wine and Spirits in Stonehaven. All money made from its sales will also go towards the Stonehaven Flood Relief Fund.
