THE Royal Aeronautical Society, the learned body for aerospace in the UK, has announced it has accredited Perth College UHI’s BEng (Hons) degree in Aircraft Engineering at Incorporated Engineer level (IEng).

Accreditation is a mark of assurance that the degree meets the standards set by the Engineering Council in the UK and will provide its graduates with some or all of the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills for eventual registration as an Incorporated Engineer.

This significant milestone means that the degree has been benchmarked against the majority of other UK universities offering Aircraft and Aeronautical Engineering programmes and at a level recognised by industry.

Professor Andrew Rae, head of Curriculum for Engineering, Science and Technology, said: “The accreditation committee studied background information and evidence and this major recognition is a credit to all the aircraft engineering staff involved.

“I am particularly delighted that evidence provided by our students was very positive and was highlighted in the report.

“Some employers recruit preferentially from accredited degrees, and an accredited degree is likely to be recognised by other countries. This will improve the employment opportunities for our graduates and gives us a solid footing for future development.”

Dr Thomas Moore, principal and chief executive of Perth College UHI, added: “This is a wonderful achievement and a significant accolade for our staff and to those of our students undertaking this programme.”
