SPICE Girls’ Melanie C is encouraging Scottish women to take part in Cycletta Scotland in 2013.

Inspired by Team GB’s success at the London 2012 Olympics, Melanie C has already publically pledged to take part in one of the Cycletta series of events.

Cycletta is a woman-only cycling event run by event organiser, Human Race, who also operate a varied range of women-only sporting events, enabling ladies to compete in an environment that is both encouraging and fun.

Cycletta boasts a range of distances, from 20 to 80 km, and will run its first Scottish event at Perthshire’s Scone Palace in September this year. Girls over 12 years-old can also take part in Cycletta, making it perfect for mother -daughter bonding.

Melanie C, who is a supporter of the events, said:

“The Human Race Women Only series is a fantastic celebration of women in sport. Women contribute so much to the world of sport and these events offer a chance for all women to get involved regardless of their age or ability.”

Lots of women, inspired by Team GB’s success in London 2012, have signed up for one of Human Race’s Women Only events.

Cycling was the most successful sports for Team GB as they achieved 12 cycling medals, including eight Gold’s across track and road events and Human Race have similarly noticed a peak in Cycletta entries.

However, it’s not just cycling that’s gaining in popularity, Human Race also offer a selection of swim, run, triathlon and cycle events taking place nationwide which means there is something for every lady to aim for.

There are five and 10km options in the Women’s Only Run and even the option for ladies to run with their buggies. In the triathlon event, ladies can sign up for novice (200m swim, 5km bike, 2.5km run), sprint (400m swim, 20km bike, 5km run) or challenge (800m swim, 30km bike, 7.5km run) distances and there is even a chance to get the girls together to make up a relay team.

Melanie C continued:

“Like so many others, I have been really inspired by how well our GB ladies did at the Olympics. Cycletta’s Victoria Pendleton was a real icon of London 2012. I am keen to take part in one of the Cycletta events this year and look forward to seeing lots of ladies get on their bike and do the same.”
