A NEW experiential learning programme is being launched for high net-worth women and younger next generation philanthropists who want to do more than write a cheque to help address some of the world’s most challenging problems.

Developed by social investment and philanthropy advisory practice, Adessy Associates, The Pioneers for Change Leadership Programme aims to provide unbiased decision-making guidance to understand the myriad of opportunities in philanthropy and the social investment field.

Combining latest thinking, dynamic methods, hands-on practice, coaching by renowned expert contributors, the £19,800 programme promises participants a life-changing experience, says Adessy Associates founder, Leesa Muirhead.

“Participants will be empowered to act strategically and manage their giving effectively so they can direct their time, networks, skills, as well as their money where they can achieve the greatest impact and make the greatest difference,” says Muirhead.

She adds: “We are focusing on women and a younger age group of men and women [18-45 years] as two groups who have been identified as ‘catalytic’ and who want to do things differently. The Pioneers Programme empowers participants to become a catalyst for change in a way that is personal and truly transformational.”

Secret Millionaire television star, Kavita Oberoi, who received the Beacon award in January this year in recognition of her for philanthropy work, is among the contributors who will be sharing their experiences with participants on the Pioneers for Change Leadership Programme.

Adessy Associates is now accepting registrations for the Pioneers for Change Leadership Programme starting in September 2013. Places are limited.

Case study – Kavita Oberoi

Kavita’s first experience of philanthropy was giving £100 a month to charities from the salary of her first after-school job when she was just 15 years-old.

Raised in a traditional Indian family, Kavita credits her father with instilling the spirit of giving in her family. She says: “My father arrived in England in the 1960’s with nothing and built a successful business through hard work and determination. He was a very successful man, but it was for the giving of his time and acts of generosity that his community remembers him.”

Kavita was the first woman in her family to get a degree and work. She has gone on to build a very successful career in the pharmaceutical industry and latterly in IT healthcare. In 2009, she was named in the HBOS report as one of ‘Britain’s 100 Most Entrepreneurial Women’ and has a string of awards and international accolades to her name, including the NRI Pride of India Gold Award.

Inspired by her experiences on the Channel 4 television series, Secret Millionaire, Kavita decided to donate some of her fortune and more of her time to help others less fortunate.

She is patron of several charities and is also chair of The Global Girls Fund, part of the worldwide guide and scout movement. The celebrity entrepreneur has pledged to raise £10m by 2014 through her contacts and network for The Global Girls Fund.

She added: “For me, one of the greatest rewards of being successful in business is being able to use the revenues generated to support and engage in charitable causes. Whether its money, time, skills or connections, I believe everyone has something to give.”

In January 2013, Kavita Oberoi received the Beacon Award in recognition of her philanthropic work.
