Media Release: Community show to boost Gaiety Theatre funds

Ayrshire Fiddle Orchestra

AN impressive list of showbiz talents join forces on Friday evening (May 31) to present Community Showcase – a feast of music, laughter, dance and song – to raise money to support Ayr’s Gaiety Theatre.

The Gaiety has brought together an impressive array of Ayrshire community groups and performers to help boost funds to continue the theatre’s revitalisation.

Hosted by TV and pantomime star, Liam Dolan, the gala night will showcase some of Ayrshire’s extensive and varied range of artistic talent, including performances from South Ayrshire Youth Voices, Marilyn de Blieck, Trusty & The Foe, the Jennie Campbell School of Daning, Ayrshire Fiddle Orchestra, Ayr Academy Singers and Little Fire.

Gaiety artistic director, Vince Hope, is delighted that so many local artistes have donated their time and talent to support the fundraising efforts.

Vince said: “This is an amazing opportunity for an audience to experience an eclectic mix of local talents and help ensure the prosperity of the Gaiety in the future. Tickets are just £12 and all proceeds will go to theatre refurbishment funds.”

Former kids TV presenter Liam Dolan is well known to Ayrshire audiences through his sell-out show at the Palace Theatre in Kilmarnock.

His TV credits include Blue Peter, Auntie’s Bloomers, Ready Steady Cook and Prom in The Park.

He has also toured with his own cabaret show Liam Dolan – Laugh Out Loud which he took to Costa del Sol, Egypt, Cyprus, Turkey and Portugal.

He also boasts an impressive string of UK pantomime credits, and as an actor he has appeared in High Road (STV), Taggart (STV) and Trial and Error (Channel 4).

The renowned Ayrshire Fiddle Orchestra have toured worldwide – from rural community centres on the Isle of Skye to the Sydney Opera House, and from retirement homes in Oslo to the lawn of the White House. This group of talented young musicians are dedicated to maintaining the strength of traditional Scottish music.

Both Little Fire, aka Jamie McGeechan, and folk duo Trusty & The Foe have built up fine reputations in recent years on the Scottish music circuit.

Community Showcase – Friday, May 31 at 7.30pm in the Gaiety Main Theatre.
