ISG, one of the country’s leading construction companies, has been shortlisted in the Environmental Excellence category at the Scottish Home Awards, which reward excellence in new housing.

Together with architectural façade specialist, alsecco, the two companies formed partnerplus, an initiative specifically designed to assist the social housing sector with the refurbishment of its high rise stock by installing new external wall insulation (EWI).

Says a spokesperson: “The primary objective is to reduce heat loss from the buildings, measured by an improvement in the U-Values returned for the property. In the past 18 months, ISG and alsecco have successfully worked together on a number of projects for clients including Glasgow Housing Association, Home Scotland and Your Homes, the arm’s-length management organisation responsible for managing council homes on behalf of Newcastle City Council.”

Chair of the judging panel, Kirsty McCluckie, property editor of The Scotsman, commented:

“The judges were impressed by the quality of entrants this year and although we didn’t always agree, there were some very robust debates in order to come up with the top properties in each category, so I’m confident we were thorough and fair.  The whole market has been through some difficult times in the six years since the awards launched, so it is fitting to be able to reward those individuals and companies who are still coming up with innovative design, homes people want to live in, and solutions for low-cost housing.”

ISG’s Andy Mallice, managing director – Scotland, added:

“The partnerplus initiative came about because, together with alsecco, we were acutely aware of the negative impact of fuel poverty on the lives of many people living in social housing accommodation. With this innovative partnership, we now provide a one-stop-shop package for our clients, by combining our experience and expertise in the design and installation of EWI systems, which reduce demand on the network grid, reduce CO2 emissions and directly benefit tenants with a reduction in their annual fuel bills.”

The winners will be announced at the Scottish Home Awards dinner which takes place at the Thistle Hotel in Glasgow on Thursday 20 June 2013.
