Media Release: Livestock producers invited to free butchery workshops

-

LIVESTOCK farmers are invited to attend one of two free butchery workshops being held in Aberdeenshire and Perthshire next month by Quality Meat Scotland (QMS).

The workshops will offer an opportunity to learn how to bone out a carcase and are free of charge to QMS levy payers. During the day-long butchery demonstration sessions farmers will also be shown how to seam cut a carcase – beef, lamb or pork.

The workshops are free on the proviso that participants bring along their own carcase for boning out and will take place on Tuesday 15th October at Thainstone Agricultural Centre, Inverurie, Aberdeenshire and Wednesday 16tth October at Madderty Village Hall, Crieff, Perthshire.

“These butchery workshops may be of interest to farmers who want to diversify into direct retail sales of meat to the consumer,” said Kathy Peebles, QMS livestock development manager.

“However, the sessions may also be of interest to those who have no retailing aspirations but are keen to have a better understanding of the type of carcase they are producing.”

The workshops run from 9am to 4.30pm and interested producers should book early by contacting Kirsty at QMS either by email info@qmscotland.co.uk or calling  0131 472 4040.

** A QMS butchery demonstration will take place at the Scottish Small Holders and Growers Festival at Lanark market on Saturday 2th September. More info at www.scottishsmallholdershow.co.uk **
