LÙTH, from Lochend Community High School, has won the Glasgow final of the recent Young Enterprise Scotland (YES) Company Programme, with a little help from Holiday Inn Glasgow Theatreland.

Providing training and practical learning experiences to young people of all backgrounds, YES supports young people aged five-25 across Scotland and is best known for its Company Programme, where senior school pupils are offered the chance to work with a teacher and business volunteer to set up and run their own company.

Pupil Stevi-Lee Rennie, Lùth managing director, said: “We are proud of our company and proud of our journey. We’ve come so far in a short period of time and have learned so much. We’ve made friends for life and memories to treasure. This is an experience none of us will forget.”

Hundreds of teachers, business volunteers, schools and thousands of pupils from across Scotland take part every year and this year Alan Taylor, general manager at Holiday Inn Glasgow Theatreland, acted as business advisor to Lùth.

“Congratulations to the team – and link teachers Allison Burnett and Heather Kerr – the main driving forces behind the team’s success. I’m delighted for the team, which made a range of scented Weegie Candles presented in jars with tartan ribbon,” said Taylor.

“They put a lot of time and effort into their impressive presentation, fully engaging with the audience, and I wish them well in the forthcoming Scottish finals.”

The YES Company Programme was established to give young people a practical, hands-on experience which gives them a true understanding of how a business works and how wealth and employment are created.

Participants gain experience of key business functions, including marketing, financial management, sales, customer care and HR, as well as practical experience of a range of economic concepts, including the market, supply and demand, raising finance, cost, price, profit and competition.

The YES Company Programme national finals will be held in Glasgow in June.
