BARRY Laurie, a partner in leading mid-tier accountancy firm, French Duncan, will this week take a hike to help raise funds for Hospitality Industry Trust (HIT) Scotland, the organisation of which he is treasurer and a trustee.

Laurie is one of a group of HIT supporters setting off on Wednesday 28th May to climb Gran Paradiso, the highest mountain in Italy at over 4000m.

He said: “We fly to Lausanne to visit the famous hotel school with which HIT has a strong association, before heading for Italy to spend three days climbing the mountain, complete with ice axes, crampons and ropes.

“I’m greatly looking forward to the experience and hope that we’ll raise ample funds to help HIT in its mission of assisting people to achieve their potential within Scottish hospitality.”

Says a spokesperson: “Since its inception, HIT Scotland has awarded over 1,000 emerging talent scholarships and 10,000 bursaries. Its emerging talent scholarship programmes range from exceptional local, national and international hands on experiences to places on courses at some of the world’s finest academic establishments, including The Cornell School of Hotel Administration and Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne.”

With a significant number of hospitality sector clients throughout the UK, including hotels, public houses, restaurants, nightclubs, visitor attractions and management companies, French Duncan enjoys an enviable reputation as hospitality sector specialists for such clients as: Apex Hotels; Strathmore Hotels; The Town House Group; BDL Hotels; Highland Heritage and the Montpelier Group as well as numerous standalone businesses and new entrants.
