Na Trads 2014 – LIVE

BBC ALBA – Saturday 13 December 9.00 – 11.00pm

BBC ALBA will this weekend provide live coverage of Scotland’s prestigious traditional music awards ceremony, the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards.

A two-hour programme, live from Inverness Leisure Centre, will be presented by Mary Ann Kennedy and Tony Kearney and following weeks of anticipation and a public vote, the evening will celebrate those who have influenced the traditional music scene throughout 2014.

Among the eclectic range of acts to perform on the night will be Na h-Oganaich, Fiddlers’ Bid, Highland based quartet Cruinn, as well as Edinburgh six-piece Celtic fusion band Shooglenifty.

The awards have been running since 2003 and televised since 2008 on BBC ALBA, with the event shining a light on the artists, clubs, tutors and supporting bodies who, throughout the year, ensure that our traditional music and song continues to flourish.

Margaret Cameron, channel editor of BBC ALBA, said: “The Trad Awards is one of the highlights of the Scottish music calendar and we’re delighted that we can bring the ceremony live to BBC ALBA viewers. The evening will be a showcase for some of the finest traditional performers that Scotland produces as well as a celebration of the rich music culture spanning the Scottish Gaelic, Scots and English languages.

“We’re passionate about showcasing the best traditional music on BBC ALBA and we hope that viewers will enjoy sampling the wonderful atmosphere as performers are recognised for their exceptional musical contributions throughout 2014.”

Na Trads is produced by Bees Nees Media for BBC ALBA and will be broadcast on Saturday 13 December at 9.00 until 11.00pm and will be repeated on Friday 19 December at 10.00pm.

A highlights programme of unseen performances and backstage interviews from this year’s event will be presented by Linda MacLeod and broadcast on Boxing Day at 9.00pm.
