BUSINESS professionals learned about mindfulness and the benefits it can have in the workplace at a free talk in Inverness this week.
Gelong Thubten, a Buddhist monk who has given advice to organisations including the NHS, HM Prison Service and Google, explained how being focused on the present moment can help workers to be more calm, compassionate and productive.
The fully-booked event took place at the University of the Highlands and Islands executive office at Ness Walk in Inverness on Tuesday and was also attended by people on video conference from as far afield as Norway.
It was the first talk in the University of the Highlands and Islands Management School’s spring business lunch series. Other topics in the series include social media in the workplace, book publishing in an online word, business funding and online financial security.
Speaking about the discussion and the other events in the series, Gary I Campbell, the university’s key account director, said: “Thubten’s insights into how this ancient practice can help both individuals and businesses were a great introduction to our new series of seminars. The interest generated from across Europe shows that the university can serve our region and its communities and have an international reach.”
The University of the Highlands and Islands Management School’s business lunch series, which runs until June, is being supported by the Royal Bank of Scotland. All talks are free to attend and take place at the University of the Highlands and Islands Executive Office at Ness Walk, Inverness. People can also attend by video conference.
