Scotland’s youngest Michelin star chef Tom Kitchin has been signed up to join a star line-up which will tantalise the tastebuds of thousands of foodies from all over the UK in a major festival which celebrates the best the country has to offer.

Taste of Edinburgh will be the first of a series of culinary events run by Channel 4 Taste Festivals. It will be held between June 7 and 10 on The Meadows and will showcase the city’s finest chef talents as well as the produce from a wide range of suppliers.

Tom Kitchin, who won his first star only seven months after opening his Kitchin Restaurant in Leith, will undertake a cookery demonstration in front of hundreds of food lovers on Sunday June 10.

He said: “Chefs like myself are delighted to see the level of enthusiam there is among the public for good, locally-sourced food cooked in intelligent and innovative ways. I am looking forward enormously to preparing something really special on the day.”

Tom will be joined by chefs such as Michelin-star Martin Wishart (Martin Wishart), Stuart Linch (Duck’s at le Marche Noir),  Stuart Muir (Forth floor, Harvey Nichols) and 
James Thomson and Gavin Elden (The Tower).

The festival was born out of the success of the Taste of London festival which has doubled in size since its launch in 2004. This year other festivals will be held in Dublin, Bath and Birmingham.

In Edinburgh, festivalgoers will be able to sample the wares of up to 60 speciality food and drink suppliers ranging from Ian Mellis the cheesemonger to Caledonian Brewery. Other attractions include the Leffe Beer Academy, Laurent Perrier Champagne and Oyster Bar, a whisky connoisseurs’ lounge, food and wine theatres and a farmers’ market for local producers.
