Media movers: Eddie Harbinson, Neil Mackay, etc

WELCOME to Media Movers, tracking some of the moves – including retirements and promotions – in the Scottish media scene…

FIRST up, and congratulations to Eddie Harbinson, on his appointment as a local democracy reporter, operating in Glasgow and East Renfrewshire. The former West Lothian Courier reporter operates out of the Glasgow newspaper, the Evening Times. But his work is available to other outlets, on account of his post being funded by a BBC scheme to enable local news reporting.

He left the West Lothian Courier in October two years ago, to embark on a working holiday in Australia.

AND good luck to Neil Mackay. In a tweet, he has announced he is stepping down as Sunday Herald editor, to become a ‘writer-at-large’. He writes: “Some ill-health made me reassess my priorities. I loved my years as editor but the role is all-consuming and getting back to writing is what I want. Salute to the team – best in the biz x.”

MEANWHILE, Matthew Lynas has been promoted to editor at Scottish Grocer & Convenience Retailer magazine. Previously, he was assistant editor.
