New York screenings beckon for Island Tapes

THE New York Historical Society is to be next week the location for the screening of a film and music show depicting the evacuation of the remote island of St Kilda in 1930.

The Island Tapes is to be part of Tartan Week, taking place in New York, and is the work of Scottish guitarist, David Allison. The multi-media show will be a combination of screen footage – sourced from the Scottish Screen Archive – and live ‘soundscapes’.

Also being screened will be a 1936 voyage from Glasgow to New York, plus short films from Skye, Harris, Orkney and Shetland.

The show has played at major festivals in Europe and this is its US premiere.

It can be seen in Glasgow on Sunday, at the Glasgow Film Theatre.
