Positive response to plans for public service publisher

A PROPOSAL to set up a ‘public service publisher’ – a commissioner of public service content after the analogue TV signal is switched off – between next year and three years’ time in Scotland – has met with a generally positive response, following an invitation for comment from broadcasting regulators, Ofcom.

Ofcom’s vision is that content be made available across all digital platforms, including digital TV and the internet.

With comments from Scottish Screen, SMG and the Gaelic Media Service among the 76 received, the responses will be fed into Ofcom’s review of public service broadcasting, scheduled to begin this autumn.
