Mash makes it a million

A SATIRICAL website, run by a former Scotsman columnist and a former Sunday Times writer, has racked up its one millionth page view – just five months after launch.

www.thedailymash.co.uk – run by Paul Stokes and Neil Rafferty – has become a bit of an overnight sensation thanks to revelations that, for instance, there are less than 50 people in the UK able to park in between the white lines at the supermarket.

The site now receives more than 100,000 visitors a month, reading around 400,000 pages – more than three times the traffic it enjoyed in its first full month of operation in May.

Says Stokes, a former columnist with the Daily Record and The Scotsman: “We set the site up as a last resort to stop us from physically attacking the bores and mediocrities who seem to run our world.

“Not only has it saved many lives but it has also struck a chord with the general public, many of whom would also appear to be borderline psychopaths.”

Both Rafferty and Stokes have more than 35 years professional writing experience between them “but remain two of the least respected journalists in Britain”.

Rafferty has held positions with the Press Association, Business AM and The Sunday Times. Stokes has been fired from his position as columnist by Scotland on Sunday, the Daily Record and The Scotsman.

He began his career on the Meat Trades Journal.
