Ball behind motor cycle mag revamp

AN Edinburgh-based magazine designer has helped revamp one of one of the UK’s best-known magazines.

Matthew Ball is behind the new look to Motor Cycle News, which is the biggest-selling magazine of its type in the world.

Ball, who has just agreed a formal ‘association’ with newspaper designers Ally Palmer and Terry Watson, has also completed a re-design of a Portuguese consumer magazine, Proteste.

Also Edinburgh-based, Palmer and Watson’s recent CV includes the Deccan Herald in India and France’s Sud Ouest and Le Monde titles.

Said Ball: “I consulted on the re-design of Angling Times last year, and after it posted a 16 per cent increase in sales, its publishers, Bauer, asked me back to work on the new look of their MCN, with art editor, Nick Lemon. We focused on the newspaper’s core values of opinion, in-depth knowledge and advice and new bike launches.”
