PCC seeking lay member

THE Press Complaints Commission is inviting applications for a public member, to help adjudicate complaints made about the editorial content of UK newspapers and magazines and their websites – including audio-visual material.

The appointment is for a term of three years.

Says the PCC: “Applicants will need to demonstrate a record of achievement in their own walk of life, an interest in and appreciation of the dynamics of a free press and new media, an acceptance of the principles of self-regulation, and an ability to analyse and digest a large amount of written material.”

However, recent or practising journalists need not apply for £11,250-a-year posting: applicants should not have been employed in the newspaper and magazine publishing industry – at management or editorial level – for the last ten years.
