Trio of Scottish BAFTA nominations for In the Loop

THE movie spin-off of a political drama series returning to UK television screens at the weekend has received three nominations at awards celebrating the best in Scottish TV, film and multimedia.

In the Loop is based on The Thick of It and it has been shortlisted in three categories in this year’s BAFTA Scotland Awards, taking place in Glasgow next month. It received nominations in three categories: Acting in Film (Peter Capaldi), Director (Armando Ianucci) and Writer (Jesse Armstrong, Simon Blackwell, Tony Roche and Ianucci). A new series of The Thick of It begins on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Richard Jobson’s New Town Killers will take on Kurdi and Crying With Laughter for the Feature Film award, while David Tennant is up against Robert Carlyle and Bill Paterson for the Acting in TV (Male) title. The Acting in TV (Female) title sees Holby City star Stella Gonet, up against Daniela Nardini (New Town) and Lindsay Duncan (Margaret).

The awards ceremony – on November 8 – will be webcast live via www.baftascotland.co.uk

Says BAFTA Scotland director, Helen Anderson: “The sheer volume of films, TV and games produced in Scotland this year is staggering a a real testament to Scotland’s burgeoning industry. There is some inspiring talent both in front of and behind the camera. I’m looking forward to next month’s ceremony and announcing our winners.”

Meanwhile, The Herald was yesterday reporting that a short film by Glasgow filmmaker, Lindsay Goodall, was being tipped to be shortlisted for an Oscar. Irene, produced by Blindside Productions, also based in Glasgow, is about Lindsay’s grandmother and her battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. It is in line to be nominated for an Oscar following victory at the Palm Springs International ShortFest in Florida, USA.
