Journalists facing the prospect of redundancy at the publishers of The Sunday Post are to be offered advice on their employment rights at a meeting to be held this evening at the Scottish headquarters of the National Union of Journalists.
The offer of advice follows news last week that, among 15 posts being earmarked for redundancy by DC Thomson's, ten are to be at its Glasgow office, which currently boasts 19 journalists.
A second meeting is being organised for next Tuesday, in Dundee. This evening's meeting is taking place in Glasgow, at 6pm, at the NUJ offices at 114 Union Street.
While DC Thomson has announced it intends creating a new post in Edinburgh, it also plans to axe four jobs in Dundee and one in London. The publishers also produce The Courier, the Weekly News and the Evening Telegraph newspapers.
Says the NUJ: “Staff will have an opportunity to ask questions and seek advice about their situation within DC Thomson and to discuss their concerns about the company's future direction.”
It is understood staff have until tomorrow to put their names forward if they are interested in volunteering for redundancy.
