Journalism prize for St Andrews University student

A STUDENTĀ at St Andrews University has won a prize at student journalism awards run by The Guardian newspaper.

Jamie Ross took the Feature Writer title at theĀ 2011 Guardian Student Media Awards, which saw the University of York take the coveted Publication of the Year award and Simon Murphy, from the University of Newcastle, named Reporter of the Year.

There were 648 entries across nine categories.

Critic of the year:Rachel Aroesti, Durham University – winner. Daniel Barrow, Warwick University – runner-up.

Photographer of the year: Rajan Zaveri, SAE Institute London – winner. Ibolya Feher, University of the West of England – runner-up.

Digital journalist of the year: Joseph Stashko, University of Central Lancashire – winner. Helen Stead, University of Salford – runner-up.

Broadcast journalist of the year: Clare Freeman, Nottingham Trent – winner. Clare Davis and Michael Greenfield, City University – runner-up.
