Lothian and Borders Police a double winner at PR awards ceremony

A PR campaign by Lothian and Borders Police has been named among the winners at UK-wide awards run by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.

At the CIPR Excellence Awards ceremony – held last night and attended by 800 guests – Lothian and Borders was named winner of the Low Budget [PR] campaign, for its Made From Crime? campaign.

It also took a special award for Best Use of Measurement and Evaluation, open to all category winners.

The campaign used traditional media as well as Facebook and the Crimestoppers website to generate intelligence about people living on the proceeds of crime. Said the judges: “[It was] a fantastic example of what can be achieved for an organisation on a low budget. Based on significant research this campaign was thoroughly thought through to ensure the overall objectives of the organisation were met.

“The Proceeds of Crime Act doesn’t sound like something particularly engaging, but by providing solutions that were creative and in some ways innovative to tackle the issue, the Lothian and Borders Police Comms team really grabbed the issue and executed it brilliantly.

“We were particularly impressed by the detailed measurement and evaluation that was put in place that left you in no doubt what an amazing impact the campaign has had for the Lothian and Borders Police.”

In a statement issued by Lothian and Borders Police, Elayne Grimes, Head of Corporate Communications, is quoted as saying: “Winning not one but two prestigious CIPR awards in the same night is a great honour, and comes hot on the heels of a number of other awards won by the team this year.

“Just last month we won a Force Excellence Award for the same campaign, and earlier this year we won an Institute of Internal Communicators Award for Operation Opal, last year’s Royal Wedding in Edinburgh.

“It’s a great boost to the organisation and the team, who put a huge amount of work into making a success of all the campaigns that come across their desk. Best Police Comms team in Scotland? I certainly think so.”
