THE Times newspaper has registered a third, successive monthly increase in its average sales in Scotland – albeit again by a small margin.
Says the Audit Bureau of Circulation, the paper’s average sale in Scotland rose by 0.8 per cent between May last year and last month.
The Times again was joining the i newspaper which has, for some time, seen its year-on-year average sales in Scotland figure rising.
The Scotsman and Scotland on Sunday no longer appear in the national listings after having recently requested – like The Herald and Sunday Herald last year – to appear in the twice-yearly ABC regional newspapers report.
In summary, the daily newspapers figures – issued at midday – concern sales in Scotland between May last year and last month and reveal the following:
Daily Mirror – 8.4 per cent drop = from 21,821 on average during May last year, to 19,982 last month;
Daily Record – 9.4 per drop = from 255,790 on average during May last year, to 231,824 last month;
Daily Star of Scotland – 15.6 per cent drop = 59,432 to 50,134;
The Scottish Sun – 13.8 cent drop = 311,144 to 268,089;
Scottish Daily Express – 11.3 per cent drop = 61,880 to 54,891;
Scottish Daily Mail – six per cent drop = 104,382 to 98,058;
Daily Telegraph – 5.6 per cent drop = 19,715 to 18,619;
Financial Times – 14 per cent drop = 3,021 to 2,599;
The Guardian – 8.4 per cent drop = 11,951 to 10,952;
i – 13.1 per cent up = 17,005 to 19,230;
Independent – 32 per cent drop = 4,657 to 3,166;
The Times – 0.8 per cent up = 18,774 to 18,931.
Meanwhile, the Sunday titles’ sales figures in Scotland were as follows:
Daily Star of Scotland – Sunday – 33.1 per cent down = 41,146 to 27,541;
The Scottish Sun – Sunday – 14.2 per cent down = 224,861 to 192,997;
Sunday Mail – 9.7 per cent down = 290,546 to 262,345;
Sunday Mirror – 7.5 per cent down = 21,936 to 20,292;
The People – 11.9 per cent down = 11,808 to 10,408;
Scottish Sunday Express – 8.4 per cent down = 35,200 to 32,232;
The Sunday Post – 11.5 per cent drop = 188,987 to 167,331;
Scottish Mail on Sunday – 4.1per cent down = 92,363 to 88,593;
Independent on Sunday – 18.1 per cent down = 6,658 to 5,454;
The Observer – 8.2 per cent down = 16,119 to 14,801;
Sunday Telegraph – 3.6 cent down = 16,896 to 16,292; and
Sunday Times – 8.8 per cent down = 51,056 to 46,556.
