McLellan appointed Scotsman editor

Breaking news, 10.15am. JOHN McLellan has been appointed editor of The Scotsman, succeeding Mike Gilson who left the post yesterday.

The current editor of the Edinburgh Evening News and a former Scotland on Sunday editor, McLellan takes over on Monday.

It is understood the other main titles in the Scotsman Publications’ portfolio – the Edinburgh Evening News and Scotland on Sunday – will have their own editors, but that McLellan will have some operational ‘responsibilities’ for them.

Recently, Les Snowdon, editor of Scotland on Sunday, announced he is becoming the sports editor of the Daily Mail.

McLellan was previously assistant editor of The Journal in Newcastle from where he joined the Edinburgh Evening News as deputy editor in 1993.

He was promoted to editor in 1997, moving to edit Scotland on Sunday in early 2002 before returning to edit the Edinburgh Evening News in late 2004.
