Posts Being Axed, Others Being Created – at BBC Scotland

Although staff will need to wait until later today to find out what the exact figures will be, it is understood that between 200 and 220 posts are to be axed at BBC Scotland – as part of an UK-wide cost-cutting exercise at the Corporation – but that as many 130 posts could, at the same time, be created.

The job cuts follow the approval yesterday, by the BBC Trust, of a two billion pound cost-cutting plan. But while director-general, Mark Thompson’s strategy is expected to result in around 2800 jobs going, again there is the prospect of new jobs being created – around 1000. The cost-cutting is mainly because the Corporation was granted a lower licence fee than it had hoped for.
