Fans frenzy reported to have greeted football gaffe

A ‘FRENZY of activity on fans’ forums and social networking sites’ is reported to have been sparked by a gaffe by BBC Scotland’s news anchor, Jackie Bird, during a bulletin yesterday lunchtime.

Says The Herald today, instead of Everton FC showing an interest in Rangers’ striker, Nikica Jelavic, it was, instead, Aberdeen.

Which will have at least made colleague, Richard Gordon (a well-known Dons fan), sit up.

What’s more, it was going to be a £6million bid from the Granite City club; not bad in these cash-strapped days when – as The Herald reminds us – the biggest transfer paid by Aberdeen to date was the £1million shelled out for Oldham Athletic’s Paul Bernard, in 1995.
