STV appoints first-ever Western Isles corr.

STV is, from today, to operate its first-ever dedicated reporter in the Western Isles.

Starting today, reporter Nicola Barron will be the station’s permanent correspondent for the Western Isles, covering all the latest news stories in the area together with camera man, Mike Skelly.

Nicola, who joined STV’s news team in Aberdeen in February two years ago, has recently relocated to Isle of Lewis and will be based in Stornoway.

She said: “This is a great new challenge for me and I’m really excited about my new role, and about starting a new life on Lewis. I’ve lived in Aberdeen my whole life so it’s quite different, but I’m really enjoying it – Lewis is so beautiful. STV viewers will definitely see more news and features from the Western Isles now I’m based here permanently, and I hope they’ll enjoy my reports.”

Added Donald John MacDonald, news editor for STV News in the north: “STV News is dedicated to providing extensive regional and local coverage across Scotland. By introducing Nicola as our permanent reporter in the Western Isles we can offer viewers even more local news content, further improving our coverage in the area.”
