STV Appointment Coup Sees Hamilton 'Coming Back Home'

A former trainee at STV who went on to become a programme controller at ITV is set to return to the Glasgow-based broadcaster as deputy director of content.

Announced today, Liam Hamilton, business development director at DCD Media, will take up the post for the production arm of STV later this year.

Hamilton – who is to be tasked with the development and expansion of STV Productions – is a former programme controller with ITV and managing director of London Weekend Television, following a spell at Scottish Television as a trainee almost three decades ago.

Says STV’s director of content, Alan Clements: “I am delighted to welcome Liam to the STV Productions team and very much look forward to working with him to continue to develop our business.

“I’m confident that Liam can help build on our recent successes in securing commissions and working in partnership with a wide range of broadcasters, both in the UK and overseas.”

Hamilton's impressive CV includes having been launch producer and then editor of This Morning, and then launch editor and executive producer of GMTV. He is a former head of daytime at ITV.

Four years ago, he moved into the independent TV production sector, as managing director of Prospect Pictures, the company behind the BBC food programme, Saturday Kitchen.

Adds Hamilton: “I am excited to be joining STV Productions and working with Alan and the team to develop new programmes for the UK and international markets.

“I started my television career at STV in the early eighties so I am thrilled to be 'coming back home' to the company at such an exciting time in its history.”
