Wanted: Older Presenters for Community Radio Station

An Edinburgh community radio station is issuing a call for older presenters, to help herald a new era that includes the installation of new equipment.

In a statement, Leith FM chair, Mike Templeton, is quoted, as saying: “We want real locals to come and present programmes. It’s important that the station talks about what matters to local people and the best way of doing that is to get residents on air.

”We have lots of talented youngsters, but we want characters who can talk to those of their own age. Not just to share memories but also to discuss present-day concerns, and yet be entertaining.

The not-for-profit station – which broadcasts on 98.8 FM – is offering full training to prospective presenters.

Adds the statement: “We’re not looking for DJs. We want people who will want to share opinions. It’s not a soap box for the presenters, but a forum for the whole community to exchange views. We’ll be looking at the music we play, and also giving that side of things a broader range.”
