BBC Scotland’s Jackie Bird reportedly undergoes emergency surgery

THE BBC Scotland presenter, Jackie Bird, has reportedly undergone emergency surgery, on being admitted to hospital after complaining of severe stomach pains.

Reports the Sunday Mail, for whom Bird write a column, she was just three hours from death after suffering a rare bowel condition.

It is being said that part of her intestine was removed during emergency surgery at hospital in East Kilbride.

Update: November 12 2012: She is on the mend, it is now being reported.

Plus: For some bizarre reason, Jackie Bird was mistaken by us – in yesterday’s reporting of this story – for fellow broadcaster, Carol Smillie , who was featured in yesterday’s Scotland on Sunday, as a painter of not inconsiderable talent. Apologies for the confusion.
