G force enters new neighbourhood

A COMMUNITY newspaper serving the G41 district of Glasgow is getting itself a sister title… serving the next door postcode.

And the launch of G42 has resulted in a price drop for G41, as publishers, Southside Media, chase advertising revenue than income from sales.

Both papers, which are monthly, next ‘hit the streets’ on Friday, with a cover price of 15p or free – the decision on whether to sell or give-away being made by the distribution point (so a church group may choose to charge – to raise some money for itself – or not).

Either way, Southside Media won’t make anything from the cover price, but is aiming to increase its advertising revenue by increasing circulation.

G41 had previously a print run of 2,000; on Friday, it becomes 5,000.

The 15p cover price option means that Southside Media can hold on to its existing network of newsagents, who were making 15p from every issue of G41 when it was retailing at 50p a copy.

Southside Media is a not-for-profit social enterprise.
