Cooney announces, online, decision to quit the Sunday Herald

THIS might come as a shock to the Sunday Herald newspaper, but the well-known sports writer, Bryan Cooney, has announced online he is stop writing for it.

The move by the former Scottish sports editor, and then head of sport, at the Daily Mail has been timed to coincide with the relaunch of a sports and showbiz website run by both him and fellow Scots freelance sportswriter, Jim Black.

Although semi-retired for over ten years, Cooney (pictured) has been producing occasional long-form sports interviews for the Sunday Herald for several years plus undertaking one-off projects such as a series of, again sports, interviews for BBC Radio Scotland.

But he writes in www.nogreyareas.co.uk that he feels he has become too expensive for the Sunday Herald and has therefore decided to stop before he is dropped.
