EVERYONE loves a tasty treat from their local baker. With thousands upon thousands of pies, scones, loaves, savoury items, morning rolls, individual cakes and biscuits sold in Scotland every day, our artisan bakers work hard to keep us all going.
So, in 2012, Scottish Bakers, the Trade Association for bakers in Scotland, decided to search for the best baker in the land and the 2016 search is about to start.
Current champs, McGhee’s Bakery, will host the official launch of the 2016 search for Scotland’s’ best professional bakers in a charity event which will feature Scottish celebs competing to show their ‘bakery brilliance’.
Their efforts will be overseen by reigning champion, Gordon McGhee, and couture cake queen, Mich Turner MBE, the Scottish Baker of the Year ambassador. Our two experts will pass judgement on the contestant’s skills and determine if their efforts look good enough to eat.
TV judge, Mich Turner, will once again support the competition by compering the awards which will be presented in May.
Mich said: “I am delighted to once again be involved in this event. As a professional cake-designer, I have been really impressed by the quality and creativity Scottish bakers are demonstrating and I look forward to being surprised and delighted again this year.”
McGhee’s Goody Bags will be available for all reporters and photographers!
