Media release: Snapshot launched of Glasgow’s food scene

A LIST of the hottest places to eat in Glasgow has been launched by the Glasgow Times newspaper and popular website, Glasgowist.

The Glasgow Restaurant Power Rankings will be updated every Thursday.

Set to become an essential snapshot of the city’s food scene, the list is a weekly countdown of the most-talked-about, must-visit restaurants in Glasgow right now.

The chart is ranked according to one important quality: Who has the most buzz?

New restaurant, Gloriosa, founded by former Alchemilla chef, Rosie Healey, which has just opened on Argyle Street, has come out on top of the first week’s list, followed by Ox and Finch and Julie’s Kopitiam.

Restaurants will move up and down the rankings based on new openings, old favourites, rising star chefs, emerging food trends, seasonal ingredients or new-found popularity.

The rankings are part of a new collaboration between the Glasgow Times and Glasgowist – with a regular Thursday column contributed by the site part of the paper’s revamped entertainment section.

Paul Trainer, editor of Glasgowist, said: “Glasgow is brimming with creativity and the food scene has never been more competitive. We’re taking a long, hard look each week to compile a chart of the most-talked-about, must-visit food places.

“There’s around 2,000 restaurants in the city right now. The Glasgow Power List is made up of ones at the very top of their game that deserve your immediate attention. Restaurants earn their place by capturing our attention, but can they keep their place?

“We are looking forward to all the food conversations to come as part of the Glasgow Times’ renewed focus on the best people and places in the city.”

Callum Baird, editor of the Glasgow Times, said: “If you want to know exactly what’s happening in Glasgow – you simply have to read the Glasgow Times. This project with Glasgowist will let our army of loyal readers know exactly where they should be eating and drinking every weekend in the city.

“Our newspaper has a new look, a new name, lots of exciting new features, collaborations, columnists, campaigns, investigations and much more.

“There’s never been a more exciting time to be part of the Glasgow Times. I can’t wait to go to Gloriosa this weekend – if I can get a table!”
