THE judges of the 22nd World Championship Scotch Pie Awards are limbering up for one of their favourite days of the year – a day that will see them select a series of best in category winners including the 2022 World Champion Scotch Pie; as bakers’ trade association, Scottish Bakers, brings back this much-anticipated and always hotly-contested competition.

Due to COVID restrictions, an one-off event was held in May this year, behind closed doors, which saw James Pirie & Son of Newtyle crowned the Champion of Champions.

It’s now back to a straight race for pie perfection across entrants in 11 categories: Scotch Pie, Football pies and savouries, Macaroni Pie, Steak Pie, Sausage Roll, Cold Savoury, Hot Savoury, Vegetarian Savoury, Haggis Savoury, Bridie and Apple Pies.

The media are invited to joins us at:

Venue: Carnegie Conference Centre, Halbeath Road, Dunfermline, KY11 8DY

Date:  Wednesday 10th November

Press are invited at 11.30am for interviews and a photo call.

The winner will be announced at a prestigious luncheon on 18th January 2022 at the Westerwood Hotel, Cumbernauld.

Says Alasdair Smith, chief executive of Scottish Bakers: “As the countdown to judging day begins, my team are hard at work preparing to receive all the entries in a safe and socially distanced way. At the same time I am pretty sure that all of our entrants are also hard at work, not only baking fresh delights for their customers daily, but preparing to produce amazing entries to this year’s much anticipated competition.

“This really is the only competition of its kind, recognising excellence in the preparation of a perfect pie and it is now a regular fixture on the calendar as professional butchers and bakers throughout the country vie for pie supremacy and the boost to their business that always comes with such a sought after title.”

TV personality, Carol Smillie, who has once again agreed to present the awards in January, said” “I am so delighted to be back on board with the World Championship Scotch Pie Awards, the world may have changed, but our love of pies most definitely has not! It’s such a fun day celebrating the skills of so many butchers and bakers who kept the nation’s spirits up with our best loved dish.”
