Media release: Metropolitan introduces special Celtic Connections menu for Dine Around Glasgow

METROPOLITAN cocktail bar and restaurant in Merchant Square, in the heart of Glasgow’s historic Merchant City, has introduced a special Celtic Connections menu as part of the Dine Around Glasgow: Scotland with Style and Glasgow Restaurant Association initiative which runs from 13 January – 10 February 2011.

Metropolitan manager, Darren Scott, said: “Our Celtic Connections menu is always a popular option with music lovers who combine their dining experience with a visit to one of the 300 events taking place in Glasgow during Celtic Connections throughout January.

“Metropolitan has always enjoyed a close association with Celtic Connections; indeed we offer bands performing at the festival a special deal which has always proven popular with musicians and fans alike, as it provides them with an opportunity to fraternise before and after a concert performance.”

Metropolitan’s £15.95 Celtic Connections menu offers starters of: lentil soup served with crusty bread; chicken liver parfait with seasonal leaves, cherry and apricot chutney and Arran oatcakes; Scottish poached salmon with lemon and dill crème fraiche, mizuna and red chard salad with a Dijon mustard oil and feta and red pepper salad with pine nuts and basil pesto.

Mains include: pork belly with mange tout, steamed rice and a sweet chilli and coconut sauce; smoked haddock served with black olive and caper salad with classic dressing; pan-fried lambs liver served with green beans and mustard mash and fussili pasta bake with cherry tomatoes, diced peppers and mixed herbs.

Desserts, meanwhile, include: date and walnut sponge with star anise caramel sauce and cream ice cream; a selection of dairy ice creams; pear poached in cranberry and orange and bitter chocolate and Bailey’s tart served with mint choc chip ice cream.

Located on Candleriggs at the heart of the Merchant City, Glasgow’s cultural, fashion and food quarter, Merchant Square offers an eclectic selection of restaurants and cafes. Once part of the old Glasgow Fruit Market, Merchant Square is imbued with the history of the area’s dominating Victorian architecture, although today this sense of history blends seamlessly with the distinctly cosmopolitan ambiance that pervades the surrounding cobbled streets that bring the outside in.
