SONS and daughters looking to treat their mum to a special celebratory meal this Mothers’ Day (you know she’s worth it!) need look no further than Metropolitan cocktail bar and restaurant in Merchant Square, in the heart of Glasgow’s historic Merchant City, which has introduced its special Mothers’ Day menu for Mothering Sunday on 3 April.

Reflecting its specialism in locally-sourced Scottish a la carte at affordable prices, Metropolitan’s three course £18.95 Mothers’ Day menu, including a glass of bubbly, offers starters of: warm asparagus, smoked bacon and goat’s cheese tart with a light walnut and beetroot salad; cream of garden pea soup with focaccia croutons; poached Scottish salmon with dill and lemon crème fraiche, melba toast and a dressed watercress & apple salad and chilled galia melon with peach puree and raspberry sorbet, pink peppercorn and cranberry syrup.

Mains include: grilled chicken breast resting on a salad of black pudding, sautéed potatoes and drizzled in a light béarnaise sauce; steamed fillet of sea bream, oriental vegetables and queen scallops with wild rice and an oyster and soy sauce; braised spring lamb shoulder in a sauce of rosemary, lemon and garlic with boulangere potatoes and haricot vert and lasagne of Scottish brie, roasted red pepper, fresh basil, served with salad and garlic bread.

The sweet selection comprises: pistachio and walnut tart with vanilla Anglaise; dark and white chocolate terrine with strawberry compote; rhubarb and bramble crumble served with cream ice cream and a selection of cheeses with oatcakes grapes and apples.

Located on Candleriggs at the heart of the Merchant City, Glasgow’s cultural, fashion and food quarter, Merchant Square offers an eclectic selection of restaurants and cafes.

Once part of the old Glasgow Fruit Market, Merchant Square is imbued with the history of the area’s dominating Victorian architecture, although today this sense of history blends seamlessly with the distinctly cosmopolitan ambiance that pervades the surrounding cobbled streets that bring the outside in.
