THEY say that Christmas seems to come around sooner every year.

Well, the summer holidays might have some weeks to go yet – but that hasn’t stopped Metropolitan cocktail bar and restaurant in Merchant Square, in the heart of Glasgow’s historic Merchant City, from planning ahead with the introduction of its Christmas menu.

Metropolitan manager, Darren Scott, said: “No sooner do party-planners and event organisers return from their summer hols than they are tasked with organising the office Christmas party – so we’re ready to help make their jobs easier with our plans for Christmas celebrations already in place.

“Our delicious menu this year features a selection of our popular traditional and modern Scottish a la carte Christmas dishes – with some special incentives for early bookers!”

Metropolitan’s Christmas Menu 2011 features starters of: lentil, barley and vegetable broth with herb pesto and crusty bread; cherry tomato and gorgonzola tart, seasonal leaves with a red pepper and tarragon dressing; duck and chicken liver parfait, fig and plum port wine chutney with Arran oatcakes and crab and crayfish salad with dill crème fraiche, caviar dressing and mixed leaves

Mains include: Metropolitan roast turkey, duck fat roast potatoes, medley of root vegetables, sage and shallot stuffing, chipolatas and bacon, wild kale and a thyme jus; pumpkin, applewood cheddar and sultana strudel with ratatouille; fillet of Scottish salmon, lemon and rosemary dauphinoise and a champagne sauce (the evening menu will feature sea bream) and char-grilled rib-eye steak, plum tomato, red onion, basil and button mushroom salad with Maris Piper chips, rocket and peppercorn sauce (the evening menu steak is sirloin).

The choice of desserts is: ginger, date and cinnamon sponge with cream ice cream; raspberry and blackberry bavarois and crème Chantilly; traditional Christmas pudding with an Armagnac sauce and a selection of dairy ice creams.

Organisers who book before the 31st October will receive a £10 voucher to use in the restaurant or bar before the end of November – and, on the day of the meal, each guest will receive a £5 gift voucher for use in the New Year.

And for diners wishing to continue their Christmas celebrations after their meal, Metropolitan’s award-winning cocktail bar will be open till 3am at the weekends and other selected nights.
