Couscous the highlight of themed dinner at Le Bistrot de l’Institut francais d’Ecosse

LE BISTROT and the Institut francais d’Ecosse continue their series of themed-dinners around la table and its delights with a very French couscous night on Tuesday 23 October. 

The iconic Moroccan specialty has been voted the third favourite dish of the French people in 2011 (study TNS-Sofres for the magazine ’Vie Pratique Fourmand’), beating moules-frites and côte de bœuf. The Bistrot’s chef calls up the foodies of Edinburgh and around to taste his very own recipe and raise glasses to the diversity of French Gastronomy.

Couscous is a North African Berber dish of semolina traditionally served with a meat or vegetable stew spooned over it. The chef’s couscous mixes lamb, chicken and beef meats with merguez (mutton spicy sausages) and seasonable vegetables. A surprise dessert and a glass of wine (red or white) add to the menu of the evening.

‘Les Diners du Bistrot’ are themed-dinner events conceived to celebrate French food in all its diversity. Housed around communal tables in the Bistrot de l’Institut, they offer once a month a set menu varying with the seasons and the themes. Next events include a Beaujolais Nouveau supper on 15 November and a traditional Provencal Christmas dinner on 4 December.
